Between 1957 and 1971, Lockaby served as Hendersonville High School principal. During his tenure, he led the school to honors in academics, arts, and athletics. He started the school's track and field program, the football and baseball teams won state titles and HHS earned accreditation in 1963-64 from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
