Henderson County Education Foundation As the newly-elected President of the Henderson County Education Foundation Board of Directors, Dr. Don Jones will share responsibilities with new officers Haynes Dorn, Vice-President; Kaye Thompson, Secretary; and Steve Greene, Treasurer; as well as nine (9) continuing Board members, and seven (7) new members of the Board. Dr. Jones will lead the Foundation Board in its effort to enhance the quaility of life in Henderson County by enriching the education of students, teachers and the community. A graduate of Wofford College with an A.B. degree and the University of Tennessee with an M.S. and Ed.D., Dr. Jones is a corporate coach with Dr. Don Jones Consultants. He has served as Vice-President of the Foundation Board as well as been actively involved in many community projects. He is married to Patsy Farmer Jones, a retired Henderson County school teacher, and they are the parents of two sons, Kyle and Bradley. They have one grandchild, Anne McDaniel Jones. Vice-President Haynes Dorn is a financial advisor with Dorn Associates and attended Western Carolina University. He is a member of the Hendersonville Lions Club and the Land of The Sky Estate Planning Council. He and his wofe, Argyll, have three children, Traynham, Trisha and Tai. Serving as Secretary to the Foundation Board is Kaye Thompson, Health Education with the Henderson County Department of Public Health. She is a graduate of Ohio State University with a B.S. degree in Social Welfare, and has four children, Aaron, Africa, Ike and Joshua. Treasurer Steve Gren is a CPA with Greene, Smith, Roddy and Company in Asheville and Hendersonville. He is a graduate of UNC-Chape Hill with a B.S. degree in Business. He is married to Jean Greene. He and his wife have three children, Kelley, Paige and Jonathan.New Foundation Board members include Marcie Molton Burlett,a teacher at Upward Elementary and a graduate of Mars Hill College; Mary Louise Corn, retired Principal of West Henderson High School who holds an undergraduate degree from UNC-Chapel Hill, a master's degree from NC State, and an Education Specialist degree from Western Carolina University; Tom Davis, CFO and Vice-President of Course Doctors, Inc. with a BS degree from UNC-Charlotte and an MBA from Emory University; and Jeannie Arrington Gooch, a retired teacher with a BA degree from Mississippi College and a MA degree from Middle Tennessee State University. Also joining the Foundation Board are Dee Dee Gould, Vice-President of the Cason Company, who was a marketing and business administration major at Mars Hill College, UNC-Asheville, and East Tennessee State University; Matthew Mullinax, an attorney with Mullinax Law Firm, with a political science degree from UNC-Chapel Hill and a Juris Doctorate degree from Campbell University; and Ragan H. Ward, a branch manager with Carolina First Bank, who holds a BA and MA in Business Administration from Queens University of Charlotte. Continuing as Foundation Board members are Jeff Bruton, Bill Burdett, Ethlyn Sims Byrd, Lynn Davis Carter, Patti Hubbard, Chester "Chat" Jones, Fritz McCall, Ken Swayze and Malvern S. "Buddy" West. The Henderson County Education Foundation provides the administrative support for both the Johnson Farm and The Bullington Horticulture Center as well as the HCEF Hall of Fame, The Creative Teaching Grants, The Special Fund for Chldren, School Assistance Fund, Mini-Grants, Reading Radio, T-Shirt Fund, Balfour Project, HCPS Science Project and three scholarships. More than $250,000 has been given to the Henderson County schools by HCEF in the last four years. |
